National Honor Society Inducts High Achieving Georgia Southern Freshmen
The Georgia Southern University chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, a national honor society for college freshmen, has initiated 404 new students.
To be eligible, initiates earn a minimum GPA of 3.6 while enrolled full-time. The University is proud of these high achieving students and the outstanding freshman class.
Phi Eta Sigma recognizes and promotes academic and service excellence among first-year students. The oldest and largest freshman honor society, Phi Eta Sigma was founded at the University of Illinois in 1923. The honor society now has 371 chartered chapters throughout the United States. High School Seniors Attend Georgia Southern University's Scholars' Day
More than 230 outstanding high school seniors were recently invited to attend Georgia Southern University's Scholars' Day in Statesboro, Ga.
The University's Scholars' Day is a unique invitation-only event providing incoming students the opportunity to meet Georgia Southern President, Brooks Keel, learn more about student organizations, participate in campus and residence hall tours and interview for a variety of academic scholarships and the University Honors Program.To receive an invitation, students must score a minimum of 1200 on the SAT, or 27 on the ACT, with a strong academic average in high school courses.

Area Students Recognized During Annual Golden Key Member Recognition Ceremony at Valdosta State University
Valdosta State University's chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society recognized 165 new members during its annual recognition ceremony held Jan. 29 in the Student Union Ballroom.
Golden Key International Honour Society is the world's premiere international honor society, admitting the top 15 percent of college sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students. The membership was founded in 1977 and now has chapters in more 390 colleges and universities. Golden Key offers exclusive opportunities and connections through $1 million in scholarships and awards, partnerships with major corporations and career advancement and graduate programs.
